Javea
(Xabia in Valencian language) is an ancient fishing village of the Costa Blanca,
surrounded by beautiful capes, caves, rocky cliffs and beaches.
It is
located on a cape (cabo de la Nao), between Valencia and Alicante, at 100
kilometres from both cities. The Montgo Mountain overlooks the area and
shelters
from Mediterranean winds. Javea has
been declared by the World Health Organisation to be environmentally near
perfect and its beaches retain their Blue Flag standard. Javea enjoys over 300 days of sun a year and the summer temperature
rarely exceeds 35°C.
Javea provides an opportunity for both beach and mountain holiday.
Javea is
divided into three main areas, the old town, the port and the beach.
The old town is constructed
around a beautiful 15th century church.
It is well preserved and has not been spoiled by high-rise constructions and over-development. Narrow spanish style streets, with 17th-18th
century houses, lined by shops, art galleries and restaurants, surround the
covered market and
the old church.
The port
area comprises an interesting architectural mix of modern and ancient
whitewashed buildings and narrow streets.
It has evolved into a trendy destination with its waterfront
restaurants, cafe bars and shops. The port bursts into life with feasts taking
place several days a weak in summer.
Among those feasts: "Moros y Cristianos"
with gorgeous parades, bull running through the streets, religious feasts,
fireworks, ….
The
Arenal is a long and large beach of white sand. Along the Arenal there is a
promenade featuring a wide variety of bars, restaurants, boutiques and
a
couple of
night clubs.
In the summer evenings, local artisans set up stalls and sell
their wares along the Arenal.
Most beaches offer water sports
including water skiing, surfing, wind-surfing, kite-surfing and diving. From the
marina, fishing boats and yacht charters are available.
Most days enjoy fresh breezes appropriate for sailing. There is a large tennis
club with horse riding. Golf courses are nearby, the closest being at
four miles from the villa.
Within 30 mins drive one can visit a Safari Park, a Sea World, Terra Mitica
Theme Park or a Water Park. Around the Montgo there is a nature park where one
can walk or rock climb amongst local flora and fauna and enjoy beautiful views
along the scenic coastline and beyond, as far as Ibiza.
There are several lovely boat trips, up and down the coast, to nearby islands,
to Ibiza,….
Many towns within 30 mins
driving are worth visiting : Denia and the 5 miles scenic route Javea-Denia over
the Montgo mountain; the Jalon valley and Jalon (Xalo)
where
one can taste wines at the co-operative opposite the popular grove
where the flea market takes places every Saturday; Moraira
with its ancient watchtower, its marina
with many restaurants and
the beach of “el Portet”; the old and picturesque part of Altea;
the beautiful mountain village of Guadalest built around an old monastery ....
Low cost
flights connect England (Easyjet, Ryanair,..) , Belgium and France
(Vueling, Ryanair..) to Valencia or Alicante.
The villa is located in one of the nicest areas of Javea. Even though the sea and shops are close to the villa, a car is necessary
to fully enjoy the holidays.
